Since visiting Olympic National Park and Orcas Island, I wanted to kayak in the NW. I found a July, 2012 trip offered by the Watcom Area Kayak Enthusiasts to the west coast of Vancouver Island. I joined WAKE and signed up for the trip. I decided I'd drive out there from Maryland.

The trip out, the kayaking, and the trip back consumed 50 days. During the trip I:

• Drove 9,821 miles through 18 States and a Canadian Province.
  
• Kayaked on 16 days.
• Hiked on 11 days.
  
• Toured 15 National Parks, Monuments, or Recreation Areas.
  
• Visited four State Parks and two Provincial Parks.
  
• Toured two caves: Wind Cave and Lehman Cave.
